Huge thanks to Lupa of The Romantic Quill for this nomination! Check out her blog for great book reviews and creative writing. The Liebster Award is a chain-letter type award designed to help readers discover new bloggers.
What are the rules?
1. Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
2. Answer the 11 questions the person asked you –
(i) When creative writing, do you completely rely on your imagination or lift off from real life or both? If both, how much of which?
I think I rely on about 50% of each.
(ii) In fiction, what is more important to you – plots or characters? Please elaborate.
Characters are more important–realistic and well-developed characters are what usually draw me into a story, although plot is important as well.
(iii) Which author/writer do you most wish to emulate in your work and why?
I don’t really try to emulate anyone when writing, but I do really love Elena Ferrante and I would like to be able to create worlds and characters as vivid as hers.
(iv) If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why? Non-human characters are also welcome.
Any fictional character with magical powers…maybe Hermione Granger.
(v) Which medium/platform(s) do you rely on to find out about the latest books, read book reviews, etc.?
Goodreads, WordPress Reader, and professional book review sites such as NY Times book review.
(vi) How do you really feel about romance novels?
I enjoy classic romance (ie. Pride and Prejudice), but not cheesy romance novels.
(vii) What are your most and least favorite things about blogging? Why?
Favorite: the community!
Least Favorite: Working on the design of my website and fixing glitches, etc.
(viii) Which of your blog posts is your personal favorite and why?
My favorite post is “A Tour of NYC’s best sights, food, and bookstores”, because I put a lot of work into it and I really love all of the places I listed.
(ix) What would be your perfect day?
A day where I get to sleep in and then go to the beach all day. It would be warm but not unbearably hot.
(x) What was your favorite subject in school and why?
In high school my favorite subject was English/Literature, because I love to read and I had a great teacher for both my Junior & Senior year English classes.
(xi) If it were up to you, what would you add to the school curriculum/syllabus for future generations? Why?
Specifically for English courses, I would add more books written by non-white/male authors, because in the past I think we’ve been taught from a very specific and exclusive perspective, and that needs to change.
